First of all, it is with more than just a little bit of trepidation that I post this article. It seems like just yesterday that I was before the Idaho State Supreme Court defending another post I had placed highlighting the link between tooth loss and dementia. We won that fight, but it was an emotionally, not to mention financially, expensive fight that I am not anxious to repeat. However, of what value was the battle if the victory gained is not capitalized on?
The research I was highlighting at that time had shown that tooth loss is associated with an increased risk of dementia. What it was not able to determine though, was the how. In this post by Dr. Michael Greger, the famed author of How Not to Die, he reports on new research indicating not only why tooth loss is associated with dementia, but how the placement of dental implants may actually reverse cognitive decline – 8 out of 10 times!
